Heel Pain Treatment in Ennis TX

heel pain relief in ennis txHeel Pain Care from Our Ennis Podiatrists

Heel pain is one of the most common foot problems we treat at Family Foot & Ankle Centers in Ennis, Texas. Plantar fasciitis is a frequent cause of heel pain and often causes sharp pain with the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.

Our Ennis podiatrists evaluate heel pain to determine the underlying cause and develop an individualized treatment plan. We offer both conservative and advanced treatment options for plantar fasciitis and other causes of heel pain at our Ennis office.

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation or irritation of the plantar fascia, a strong band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the toes. The plantar fascia helps support the arch of the foot and absorbs stress during walking and other activities.

A common symptom of plantar fasciitis is sharp pain near the bottom of the heel, particularly with the first steps after getting out of bed in the morning or after sitting for an extended period. The pain may improve after walking for a few minutes but can return after prolonged standing or activity.

What Are The Main Causes Of Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis develops when the plantar fascia, the strong band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot, becomes irritated or strained. Repetitive stress on the plantar fascia can lead to inflammation and small tears in the tissue. Several factors may increase the risk of developing plantar fasciitis, including:

  • Flat feet or abnormal foot mechanics
  • Being overweight
  • Prolonged standing or walking, particularly on hard surfaces
  • Increased exercise or repetitive impact activities
  • Shoes with inadequate support or cushioning
  • Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendon

How Is Plantar Fasciitis Treated?

Treatment for plantar fasciitis depends on the severity of your symptoms, how long you have been experiencing heel pain and the underlying factors contributing to the condition. Our Ennis podiatrists may recommend one or more of the following treatments:

Rest and activity modification – Reducing activities that aggravate the plantar fascia can help decrease pain and allow the irritated tissue to recover.

Ice and anti-inflammatory measures – Ice and anti-inflammatory medications may be recommended to help reduce pain and inflammation.

Supportive shoes and custom orthotics – Properly supportive footwear and custom orthotics can help improve foot mechanics and reduce excessive stress on the plantar fascia.

Stretching and physical therapy – Stretching the plantar fascia, calf muscles and Achilles tendon can improve flexibility and reduce tension on the heel.

Plantar fasciitis night splints – A night splint holds the foot in a gentle stretched position while sleeping and may help reduce morning heel pain.

Advanced treatment options – For persistent plantar fasciitis that does not improve adequately with initial treatment, additional therapies may be considered based on your individual condition.

Your Podiatrists In Waxahachie, Ennis and Corsicana, TX…

Dr. Jeffrey Petty

Absolutely life saving! My husband had been dealing with pain in a pinky toe for months going to another podiatrist. Things continued to turn for the worst. After landing in front of Dr. Petty, he immediately pointed out a possibility of vascular issues. Within a few hours, my husband was directed to a specialist (cardiologist/vascular dr). Next thing you know, my husband landed at Big Baylor in Dallas having a surgery to remove a blocked artery to his leg that became life threatening at 41 yrs old & a healthy man. If it wasn’t for Dr. Petty, my husband would have not made it another day! We have seen doctor petty for over 20 years! He’s very respectful, helpful and truly caring! Not just that, but his staff is so supportive and friendly! Highly recommended! Hands down!
