Eliminate Painful Corns & Calluses in Corsicana TX

corns and calluses in corsicana txAward-Winning Care & Relief from Painful Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses are one of the most common foot problems seen at Family Foot & Ankle Centers. Both of these painful conditions occur due to too much pressure on the feet. We have treated thousands of happy patients in our Corsicana office with this painful problem.

What is the Difference Between a Corn and a Callus?

Corns are caused by friction on the toes. Many corns have a core in the center and can be extremely painful when touched. They can have a rubbery texture and can appear on the top or sides of the toes.

A Callus is an area of thickened, hard skin on the bottom of the feet. It is usually is not as painful as a corn. These are larger than corns and occur on areas of the feet that get a lot of pressure such as the ball of the foot.

What Causes Them?

There is no doubt that walking puts a lot pressure on the feet. When this pressure becomes too much, areas of skin can thicken to help protect the bones and nerves underneath. This thickening is referred to as corns and calluses. Certain foot problems, such as hammertoes or bunions, may develop a corn or callus where your shoes rub against the deformity. Shoes that do not fit correctly can also contribute to these painful lesions. .

Treatment For Corns and Calluses

The number one treatment for getting rid of these painful lesions is to remove the pressure that is causing them. If you have a corn on the toes, attempt padding the toes and buying a shoe with more room in the front of the shoe. If you get calluses under the ball of the foot, avoid high heels, avoid barefoot and wear shoes with plenty of cushioning.

It is advised not to self treat by cutting corns yourself, especially if you are obese, elderly or have diabetes. The Podiatrists at Family Foot & Ankle Centers will be able to remove the corns and calluses and recommend further treatment to keep them away!

Avoid using acid patches on the feet. Corns and calluses are not warts and should not be treated that way. Many patients every month come into Family Foot & Ankle Centers with infections from applying this acid. It is not uncommon for them to have a whole in their foot.

Our podiatrists will be able to completely remove corns and calluses efficiently and painlessly, We may also recommend certain padding and insoles for long term relief. apply padding or insoles to relieve pressure or fit corrective appliances for long-term relief.
